April Phule's Contest!

For those of you who don't get the joke, Phule (pronounced fool) is a character in Valencia. Since it's a holiday, we have the advantage to throw out a special contest for our fans! Allow me to announce the first Spectacular Phule Show! As you can see, this man may be a little crazy, but he's also dressed fabulously (in some down right funny way), so we want some creative ideas! How can we put on a better show here at Pirates Unite? It benefits you if you win and it benefits us to know what we need to get together!

PRIZES!!!
1st Place: Mighty Steed Mount
2nd Place: $10 Pirate101 Gift Card
3rd Place: 3 Tribal Crew Packs and a KI Free Games code

What you need to do is comment on this blog post touching upon these two topics: what we're doing good and what we can do to do better. We do NOT take any harsh or cruel comments. You will be judged by how helpful your entry was to us! The requirements are:

. In order to have a valid entry it must be about the two topics addressed above
. Cutting and pasting other people's writing is not accepted
. Has to be between 1-2 paragraphs, no more no less

Contest ends April 5th 4pm EST, winners will be announced at 8pm EST that same day! Good luck!

  1. I think that your contests are great! You have them every once in a while, and with great prizes as well! Also, your background themes and art are wonderful as well! I'd like to see a bit more information on the site, maybe about the game itself? Like some information about a certain character every week, or just a few bits of facts about the game that most people probably don't know? I think that would be fun and entertaining at the same time. :) Thanks so much for the contest!

  2. What you're doing well:
I love the frequent updates that are made to the site with posts and how you've got several writers that update for you on how they're progressing on certain characters in the storyline because I love hearing about how people are doing in the game and what they've found/experienced. I also enjoy the polls and such down the sidebar.

    What could be done better:
Personally, the font could be a bit different with titles (the etchy one that looks a bit like chalk, the one that says 'No comments' and such) because it is hard to read and does not really look that aesthetically pleasing. However, that is just my opinion.
On another matter, maybe each writer could have their own little picture or ending that they sign their post off with rather than just a standard thing to make it a little fun and flow through each writer.
Also maybe a few more pages for separate things like each writer could have their own section where all their posts are and their little 'about them' bit.
As for the sidebar, maybe try and promote smaller blogs because they (like I know you do sometimes) need a bit of support and bit of help getting out there.

Sorry for such a long comment but I tried to make it as helpful as possible. <3 xo

    1. Also, in the near future you could maybe ask for guest writers/interviews with people from the community whether it be online or in the game itself.

My rant is now over. Promised.

  3. Ahoy! Thank you for the contest!

What you're doing right: I really enjoy the page graphics and decoration, it is very eye appealing! I LOVE how you post frequently and all of your posts are enriched with detail. Keep it up! The polls are a nifty idea to add to the website and the usual contest keeps everyone up and running around here! I love the prizes you give out (Not too expensive but not too cheap) and you have some pretty good ideas for contests! You could even try a coloring contest, maybe even a "Coolest outfit" contest! Those were my favorite in my old game.

Some Fixer Uppers: I'd like to see different tabs with different kinds of blog posts put together like Guides, Contests, Contact Us, anything you can think of. It would be a pleasure to put on there so I could navigate through the posts more easier. I think you should add to the "Staff" section because a lot of people would like to know more about the current staff.

Thank you for this contest, I hope these tips will help you strive to becoming a good website.

  4. Hey guys! Thanks for the contest!

Alright, first off the page design is wonderful. The colors and background design look classy, and not like they were just thrown together. Definitely a good start.
The community here is to lively! The steady stream of posts coming from here keeps me coming back for more. You got a solid crew of bloggers that's for sure!
In the early stages I could already tell this blog had potential, but you guys have really outdone yourselves, a bit more than I expected to! This has become one of my favorite fan sites to visit. The content of the posts can be really funny, helpful, and/or enjoyable altogether! I really appreciate the guides for the game, those helped me and my forgetful mind in the past few quests.
The prizes you give out for contests are perfect, and I hope you guys experiment with future contest requirements, drawing especially! I personally avoid raffles, just because they are at random, but contests where you actively have to participate is way more enjoyable. I also love how dedicated you guys are to improving! You're a creative bunch of pirates that's for sure!

Some things I would change... there's not much. It's just the little things, like maybe having tabs on the page for contests, guides, fan fiction, or anything else you guys could sort your posts in so they are within easier reach to us readers.
I think the page set up is pretty awesome, I've noticed most fan sites have a special link to the official Pirate101 page. You might want to include that, even though most of us know very well what this blog is a fan of, it's a good resource.
Being a bit of an artist, in my unprofessional opinion I think the title of the blog should be centered to the page, not aligned to the main blog posting part. For me, my eyes immediately catch the title, then travel down to the blog posts, and I always miss the goodies on the side. I know they aren't as important, but it is more aesthetically pleasing and rounds off the top of the page rather than it feeling like it's leaning to the left.
I think setting up a pvp tournament/hangout would be really fun too! Maybe give us a chance to meet our bloggers and tussle with a few in the meantime! Maybe that can be our time to ask questions and another chance for you guys to get feedback. I'm a huge pvp enthusiast, but that's just me hahah.
    Alright that's all I got.
Again, thank you for the contest and all the fabulous work you've done so far! Keep it up and stay classy!

  5. Such a great contest. Always nice to improve by getting constructive feedback from others. Here's my entry and thoughts:

I'm quite fond of the polls that are regularly put up; it seems to encourage community involvement which is definitely a central aspect of the site. It's always great to hear what they think of topics that may not generally be discussed; for example, according to the poll currently up, I never knew that the majority of pirates like the villains in the game! Another huge thing that I really like is how you have a great number of staff members. Of course, there's nothing wrong with having a fansite run by one person; the issue with that, though, is that consistent posting may be a bit difficult. Generally, the more you post (as long as the posts are good in quality, which they certainly are), the more popular a site will be. By having a large community of bloggers, you can safely ensure that you will have a vast number of posts out within a short amount of time. Just look at how many posts there already are in April, and it's only been 5 days!

What could you improve on? Go bigger. You already have a lot of content, but add even more. Guides are always helpful so that you can help some struggling players get through the game easier. I noticed that you post a lot of questing updates and game news. If you can, try to broaden your topics and discuss some of your own ideas. What do you think is coming to the game soon? What new updates would you like? Why would these updates help the game? If you have an theories on what's to come in the near future or a long, long time from now, we want to hear! It's always nice to see opinions rather than just straight facts - KingsIsle seems to listen to ideas and feedback, too, contributing your own thoughts could never hurt. If you have any thoughts on strategy, that will be useful for both new and experienced players, as everyone can build off others' playstyles to better their own. With such a diverse combat system in the game, the way you play would likely be different from the way anyone else does, so hearing new strategies can result in a deeper understanding of the way the game works and how you can play it effectively. All in all, though, the site is really great, and I hope that you can use this comment (and everyone else's) to positively improve. Can't wait to see how this site continues to grow!
